  • New Russian Venture Capital Fund Launched By the Founders of Almaz Capital Partners, Parallels, and Acronis

    July 14th, 2010 1 comment

Based in Renton, Washington; Runa Capital is a venture capital fund that is a cooperation of Russian and US tech entrepreneurs who have founded several successful software and tech companies, including Parallels, the maker of the Desktop Software that allows Mac users to run Windows or other operating systems simultaneously with their Mac operating system. The fund plans to invest up to $30 million in seed capital to early stage companies who are in the tech and software industries.

Russian entrepreneurs who are involved in launching Runa Capital include Ilya Zubarev, cofounder of Acronis; Igor Borovikov, who founded Russia’s largest software distributing company, Softline; and Igor Daniloff, founder of Doctor Web, a prominent antivirus company in Russia. The fund also includes several American entrepreneurs who founded large companies as well. They include the cofounder of the world’s largest hosting company, 1&1, Andreas Gauger. Most importantly, one of the key role players in launching Runa Capital include Sergei Belussov, cofounder of Parallels. Parallels has become one of the most disruptive companies in the software industry by creating the Desktop software for Mac computers. Parallels has been a market leader in the software industry by creating software that enables Mac users to run either Windows XP, Windows Vista, and other guest operating systems on their Macs without rebooting their whole system. Parallels has been followed by other companies that do the same thing, such as Fusion, however, it has maintained its market leadership in this area of the software industry.

Runa Capital will primarily invest in new Russian startup companies in the software and tech industries that show promise in their product, business management, and have technology that can disrupt the marketplace.

According to Dmitry Chikhachev, managing partner of Runa Capital; the teams of the companies represented in the founding and launching of Runa Capital face many challenges in facing new concepts and maintaining their market leadership in the industry. Our team includes entrepreneurs from prominent internet, software, and tech companies who’s experience in the industry and expertise in their sectors can provide the resources and expertise to young Russian entrepreneurs who have the talent and the desire to develop their technology ideas into global technology businesses. Our industry expertise, experience in marketing and business management can provide the knowledge and resources to supplement the capital that Runa will invest in these entrepreneurs.

Runa Capital investments will also be backed by a powerful incubator program that will be known as the Runa Park Incubator Program that will allow Russian tech entrepreneurs develop their ideas into world class companies and transform the Russian tech and software industry.
