    September 26th, 2010 3 comments

Based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Lantos Technologies is a company that is currently developing technologies to help ENT physicians to examine the ear canal and the ear with some of the finest real-time imaging scanners. The company currently has a product prototype of a fine-tune audiological scanner that can be used by physicians to examine the ear. What makes Lantos’s technology so unique and attractive to investors is that the device that Lantos is developing is the first ever intra-aural examining device that can produce real-time 3D imaging. When commercialized, this technology can revolutionize audiology by giving audiologists and ENT physicians a powerful tool in ear disorder and disease diagnostics. Along with this funding round, Lantos is planning to commercialize this technology and bring it to market.

On September 16, 2010, Lantos Technologies has announced that it has closed $1.6 million in series A funding with Catalyst Health Ventures leading the funding round. Other investors who joined in the funding round include Excel Venture Management and Mass Medical Angels. Proceeds from this funding round will go to commercialization the company’s 3D intra-aural technology.

According to the CEO of Lantos Technologies, Shahid Azim, the company has positioned itself in the prime position to revolutionize the way audiologists can diagnose disorders in the ear canal as well as enable the design of ear devices such as hearing aids and other ear pieces. Mr. Azim further added that Lantos is very fortunate to have an executive team that is bright, diligent, strong, and experienced team which is backed up by the funding some of the more powerful investment firms in the United States.

According to the managing director of Excel Venture Management, Rick Blume, the technology that Lantos has brought to the table has the potential to disrupt the entire market in the audiology industry. What makes Lantos’s technology so attractive to investors is that it has the potential to attack and disrupt the markets in a wide variety of sectors in the audiology industry. This ranges from the aid to design a more comfortable hearing aids to ear pieces for a wide variety of both medical and other audio devices to diagnostic uses for audiologists. The best news that this unique technology brings, however, is that it can greatly improve the life of people who suffer from hearing loss, by creating a more comfortable hearing aid.

Catalyst Health Ventures is a venture capital firm that primarily invests in early stage companies who are in the healthcare, life sciences, and medical devices industries. Catalyst primarily seeks companies who have a technology that is innovative and can meet an unmet need in the three above mentioned industries. The firm likes to invest early and make a first initial investment of $1 to $3 million and expects to invest a total of $7 to $8 million in any given portfolio company. Some other companies in Catalyst’s portfolio include Augmenics, BioTrove, Vortex Medical, GI Dynamics, and others.
