Aushon BioSystems Raises $6.5 Million in New Round of Financing
March 30th, 2009 No comments
Companys strong performance and strategic vision for future growth in pre-clinical and clinical biomarker research spurs continued financial support
BILLERICA, Mass. Aushon BioSystems, Inc., the leading provider of advanced microarray instrumentation and laboratory services for biomarker analysis, recently announced that it has received additional financing of $6.5 million. The financing was led exclusively by North Bridge Venture Partners.
The financing was used, in part, to support Aushon’s recent purchase of the SearchLight® Protein Array business and technology assets from Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. SearchLight assets are currently being integrated into Aushon, but its offerings will continue to be marketed under the SearchLight brand. The combined business will operate under the name Aushon BioSystems, with headquarters in Billerica.
“This latest round of financing speaks directly to the strength of our company, and to a strategic vision that recognizes the tremendous impact that multiplexed assays and microarray technology can have in accelerating biomarker research,” says Peter Honkanen, CEO of Aushon. “Our decision to acquire SearchLight is central to that vision. Not only will we be able to deliver reliable protein biomarker data to accelerate pre-clinical and clinical research, but our customers can now rely on a single, proven resource for all their biomarker research needs.”
“Since its inception, Aushon has demonstrated a keen understanding of the research imperatives for life science clients worldwide,” says Rich D’Amore, a Partner at North Bridge and an Aushon Board Member. “With the addition of SearchLight, Aushon continues to transform that understanding into robust, relevant products and services, offering not only instrumentation that takes the multiplexing power of microarrays into proteomics, but also a menu of more than 300 consumable products that leverages years of assay development knowledge and key biologically relevant content. We’re very excited about Aushon’s ability to impact biomarker research and increase the pace of drug development, and are confident of their continued success and growth.”
