  • Dakim, Inc. Receives $10.6 Million in Series C Private Equity Funding

    February 22nd, 2008 No comments

Dakim, Inc., an innovator in brain fitness technology solutions, today announced the completion of a $10.6 million Series C financing. The round was led by Galen Partners, a leading private equity firm specializing in healthcare investing. The funds represent the first institutional investment for Dakim. Terms of the financing were not disclosed.

Dakim’s new funding will allow for the continued expansion of its [m]Power Cognitive Fitness System product line. [m]Power, launched in November 2006 to widespread acclaim from healthcare and senior living professionals, significantly improves the quality of life for active seniors with normal brain function as well as for individuals diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia. The all-in-one hardware/software system offers games, puzzles and other cognitively stimulating activities designed to strengthen aging minds. Unlike other systems, it also automatically tailors its activities to match the user’s changing ability level and is updated regularly with new exercises to motivate sustained, long-term use. The company also plans to launch a new version of the [m]Power system later this year for home users, enabling all seniors to benefit from this advanced system.

In conjunction with this equity financing, David W. Jahns, managing director at Galen, and William D. Williams, a special venture partner with Galen, have joined the Dakim board of directors. Regarding the announcement, Mr. Jahns said, “Dakim has developed an innovative, affordable and practical solution to assist the rapidly aging population maintain their brain health and fight Alzheimer’s disease. We at Galen Partners are very excited about collaborating with the innovative Dakim management team.”

Dan Michel, CEO of Dakim, said, “Galen’s collaborative approach, combined with its unmatched experience and knowledge of the healthcare industry, will significantly strengthen our company and enable us to continue our rapid growth. Our partnership with Galen will help Dakim capitalize on the competitive advantages [m]Power offers customers in senior care facilities as well as expansion markets such as brain injury rehabilitation and healthy aging home use.”

Dakim, Inc., founded in 2001, is a provider of innovative cognitive fitness solutions designed to improve quality of life for aging individuals with normal brain function as well as those suffering from dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.  The company’s solutions also enable senior living providers and home caregivers to provide effective mental stimulation while actually reducing the cost of care.  Dakim was among an elite group of researchers and organizations invited to present its technology for addressing brain aging at the once-a-decade White House Conference on Aging in 2005.
