  • Investment Firms, Partech International, El Dorado Ventures, and Sisco Systems Lead $10 Million Investment in Series C Funding for Atlantis Computing

    August 26th, 2010 1 comment

Based in Mountain View, California, Atlantis Computing announced on August 25, 2010 that it has closed a $10 million series C funding round led by Partech International, El Dorado Ventures, and strategic corporate investor, Sisco Systems.

Since its inception, Atlantis Computing has been working on a computing system to change the way desktop computing is being done. The company’s cloud platform has revolutionized the way businesses can resolve various desktop computing issues, such as storage expenses and more. The one product that has enjoyed enormous success for Atlantis is the VDI or virtual desktop infrastructure. In today’s world, where technology is being more advanced and different computers are working together, there are many issues dealing with compatibility with different operating systems and software. The biggest issue is with Apple’s MacIntosh operating systems and Windows.

To meet such an unmet need, virtual machines have been designed to run guest operating systems of computers with different operating systems to allow people to use one computer for all their computing needs. For the past ten years, virtual machines have become common on many work computers. Atlantis has resolved a major problem with virtual machines that has been a problem for IT services to resolve. Virtual machines can take large amounts of disk space or bandwidth for businesses, raising IT costs.

According to El Baze, general partner at Partech International, the market for virtual desktop infrastructures is one of the fastest growing sectors in the entire tech industry. The team at Partech truly believes that Atlantis Computing can play an important role in this sector of the tech industry. Mr. Baze further stated that Atlantis and its unique technology can also play an integral part in meeting the unmet needs for this market with the potential for high growth and a high ROI for the firm.

One other sign of the success that Atlantis Computing has enjoyed, company has developed a virtual desktop technology that works together with large IT enterprise networks such as Citrix, VMware, Quest, and other VDI programs to reduce IT expenses.

Atlantis’s VDI platform gains even more praise with the input of the 451 Group and the praise was added by one of their senior analysts, Rachel Chalmers, who stated that the potential for virtual desktops is understood by many, but few have adopted this concept into reality. One of the major barriers that most IT companies face with server based virtual desktops is cost and user acceptance. The VDI platform that Atlantis has to offer has already proven itself to shatter the barriers that most IT companies were facing and early on, the company’s client base has been growing for several years, putting Atlantis in a good market position.

With offices in the United States, Europe, and Israel, Partech International is one of the largest multinational venture capital firms and currently has $800 million in assets under active management. Partech primarily invests in growing companies who operate in the IT, software, internet, and communication industries. Some other companies in Partech’s portfolio include Bocada, Brands 4 Friends, Goojet, Goom Radio, Peer Pong, Quin Street, and others.

El Dorado Ventures is a venture capital firm that primarily invests in early stage companies who have disruptive technologies and function in high growth markets. El Dorado rarely invests alone and usually will co-invest with other investors in seed or other funding rounds in a syndicated funding round. When El Dorado does participate in a syndicated funding round, it usually takes a co-leadership role in the investment round. Some other companies in El Dorado’s portfolio include Ampulse, BridgeLux, Convio, CrossLoop, Edgewater Networks, and others.
Sisco Systems is one of the world’s largest IT companies which have services and communication products for both business and the home. Some of the products and services that Sisco Systems has to offer include teleconferencing, networking, security, and more. The corporation’s strategic investment arm primarily invest in companies which have a unique proprietary technology that could benefit Sisco Systems.
