International Group of Private Investors Invest an Undisclosed Amount in Series B Funding for Omek Interactive as Company Adds New People to Its Management Team
January 26th, 2011 4 comments
Based in Bet Shemesh, Israel, Omek Interactive is a company that is developing revolutionary video game technology which allows users to interact with the video games by movements of the human body. On January 26, 2011, Omek Interactive has announced that it has closed an undisclosed amount of financing in a series B funding round from an undisclosed international group of private investors. On the heals of this investment, the company has also announced that it has hired new people to its management team.
Omek Interactive develops some of the most state-of-the-art video game technology in the ever evolving video gaming industry. The way Omek’s technology works is by using a special proprietary software engine that works by interpreting raw depth movement by the use of sensors placed on strategic parts of the human body. The object of the technology is to allow users to move as if they were literally in the game setting. The users movement are then copied in the TV or game counsel monitor, thus giving the user a sense of reality while playing the game.
Omek designs technologies for game developers, platform vendors, and for companies involved with digital signage. For game developers, Omek provides the Omek SDK and viewer to enable the developers to develop a wide variety of gesture based video games. Along with the SDK technology, the company also provides game developers with some of the superior tools to create an agnostic cross platform that will help ensure game developers to create games that can work properly over a wide range of gaming hardware and devices.
Omek also provides the Automatic Gesture Authoring Suite for game developers to record new gestures. The most revolutionary aspect of the Automatic Gesture Authoring Suite is that no programming is needed to use Omek Middle Ware when game developers are authoring new gestures. Omek has even more technologies for game developers as well.
As far as platform vendors are concerned, Omek provides a suite of tools to allow them to create an imbedded Windows based platform for gesture based video games. This technology provides platform developers with support for all major 3D game gestures, imbedded support for all major chip sets, and media publishing.
Digital signage is for retailers and other video game merchants, who are selling gesture based video games. The technology that Omek provides merchants for digital signage allows customers to interact with the video games in the store prior to purchasing the game. This technology allows for the customers to try the game themselves without being able to pirate or steal the game software.
According to Omek’s CEO, Janine Kutliroff, gesture recognition and control is revolutionizing the way technology is used in a broad spectrum of society. Gesture recognition and control has been incorporated in everything ranging from TV top boxes, different game counsels, and PCs. Furthermore, the ability for gestures made from the human body being incorporated in a virtual 3D setting can have a huge impact on the entertainment and video gaming industry. Ms. Kutliroff further added that Omek’s investors also see the potential the company’s technology can have in the entertainment industry.
In addition to the series B funding round, Omek also announced that it has taken new people aboard its management team. One of the people to join the company’s management team is Mr. Jonathan Epstein, who will be fulfilling the role of the company’s new president. The other person to join the team is Jon Grande, who will be serving as the company’s vice president of publishing.
Mr. Epstein’s experience in the gaming industry is quite deep and prior to joining Omek, he has served as the CEO of Double Fusion. Along with that, Mr. Epstein has launched several successful companies in the gaming, entertainment, and tech industries.
Upon joining the company, Mr. Epstein stated that he was excited to join Omek’s team, because the company has a crucial role to play in today’s society in every walk of life. Furthermore, the technology that Omek has to offer provides some business opportunities of immense proportions.
Mr. Grande is well suited for the position of Omek’s vice president of publishing, where he will lead the company’s content and gaming business. This will include coordinating all of the company’s internal gaming studio, broader game developer and publishing associations, and affiliates. Prior to joining Omek, Mr. Grande worked for Microsoft, where he played a major role in developing Microsoft Game Studios. Mr. Grande has a tenure of 17 years at Microsoft and founded several startups in the tech industry.
Proceeds from the series B funding round will go to extend the research and development efforts for new gaming technologies that can disrupt the industry.
